Our expanded program now includes junior varsity classes for younger players in junior high, providing a seamless progression from skill-building lessons to full-fledged competitive play. From summer and autumn training to the official Varsity season, players sharpen their abilities through team practices, clinics, and camps in our regulation polo arena (100yds x 50yds).

 

Open enrollment for JV and Varsity Teams welcomes experienced and first-time players and riders to sign up for any upcoming Friday teen lesson for a chance to learn the sport and join the squad.  Dedicated players will not only experience the thrill of polo and camaraderie on the field but also gain valuable skills through teamwork and the responsibility to care for the equine athletes beyond the short duration of a game, which many carry through to their adult lives and careers. Graduating players often continue polo careers at over 41 colleges and universities around the US.

 

Newport Polo has over 30 years of experience in teaching new players to play polo.  Top-of-the-line training facilities, trained polo horses for all levels, and professional-grade equipment are all provided as a part of the polo programs.  Team coach, Minnie Keating, is a Certified Polo Instructor and interscholastic polo alum who, among her many polo accolades, was captain of Newport's interscholastic team to place 3rd and 5th at the Interscholastic Nationals in 2012 and 2013.

 

Participation is open to boys and girls in grades 7 - 12 who are in good academic standing.  Team members will participate in weekly practices, intra-team scrimmages, and official games against other New England rivals, with the opportunity to participate in at least one regional tournament.  Review individual player commitments.

 

Once selected for the Varsity squad, the real action begins! Players compete in USPA-sanctioned games and tournaments, with the chance to earn Varsity Letters and College Scholarships from the USPA. September through March is game time, with Newport Polo coordinating practices, home and away matches, and prestigious USPA tournament play.
